In today's episode, we delve further into the 1976 We Celebrate with Song hymnal for more hymns that we miss at Mass - this time running through numbers 151-200.  We also do a review of the pretty little hymnal pictured at left, the Vatican II Hymnal, made available at the Corpus Christi Watershed.

iSNARK! 188

Listen below, or download here. (36:49/33.7 MB)

Have you ever sang certain hymns and wonder just where they went?  Well, today we start a little series of hymns that we miss over here, and we're using a hymnal that I'll bet is hardly remembered - the 1976 (premiere) edition of We Celebrate (The picture on the left is one of the logos I describe).  We combed through just the first 50 hymns alone and you should see what we came up with.  Also, we combed through all four editions of Worship and came up with a new hymnal containing the best of all four: Worship - Ultimate Edition!
PLUS: Duck and cover (just ask Shamus O'Reilly), and a law student who wants to play, but doesn't want to pay!

Feasts for the Week: March 11-18
In What We Have Done, and in What We're Going to Do: the "have done" for First Friday and the Second Sunday of Lent, and the "going to do" for the Third Sunday of Lent.
Miscellaneous Outburst: What have you given up for Lent?

iSNARK! 187

Listen below, or download here. (1:00:14/55.1 MB)

We're covering a couple of topics in this hour (give or take 14 seconds) of fun! One answers the question of what a funeral is like at my parish.  What music do I play?  What music do we allow and disallow?  We cover that, as well as play a good number of pieces from a recent funeral.  The other describes the differences, improvements, and declines in the four hymnals pictured at left.  Also, does a pop singer deserve to have the American flag flown at half-mast?
Feasts for the Week: February 22-March 4
Don't Do This at Church: Ashes on the fly!
Commercial: Krakowska Kielbasa
In What We Have Done and In What We're Going to Do: "Have done" for the Seventh Sunday of Ordinary Time and Ash Wednesday, and "Going to do" for the First Sunday of Lent.
Random Thought: Bad mixes
Hymnody in Inflationary Language: Shamus O'Reilly lists some interesting "inflated" Lenten hymn titles.  Also, get a load of what he's giving up for Lent!

Music:
1. Requiem Aeternam (Chant, Mode VI); 2. Lift High the Cross (tune: Crucifer)
3. Alleluia (written by Theodore Marier, with funeral verse sung to Psalm Tone 5)
4. Glory and Praise to You (written by yours truly, based on Vexilla Regis, Chant, Mode I)
5. Sanctus XVIII; 6. Mortem Tuam Annuntiamus, Domine (from Jubilate Deo)
7. Agnus Dei XVIII (Missa Pro Defunctis version); 8. Lux Aeterna (Chant, Mode VIII)
9. Let Thy Blood in Mercy Poured (tune: Jesus, Meine Zuversicht)
10. I Believe that My Redeemer Lives (written by Henri St. Louis)
11. In Paradisum (Chant, Mode VII/VIII)
12. Ave Verum (written by Camille Saint-Saens), sung by the Choeur de Marais, brought to you by The Classic Cat.

Pictured above is our "utility restoration speedometer". You'll see why, as most of the east coast was hit by Hurricane Irene last weekend (we got slapped by Tropical Storm Irene instead). Watch as we compare our monopoly utility company to FEMA.
Also (and more important), we discuss and demonstrate my own setting of Psalm 95 with the antiphon "If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts".
We have a second version of our Krakowska Kielbasa commercial as well!

Today we rate the Psalm section of the 2010 OCP Music Issue (Psalm section), as well as present my Lenten contributions to the Chabanel Responsorial Psalm Project.

Big storm? What big storm? Pictured at left are plows waiting for the "big snow storm." Only catch was, that storm never happened. We finally got some snow about 5:00 last night. It turned out the most we got in our city was a big whopping two inches! Opening segment was actually recorded about 1:00 that afternoon. Supposed blame? Shamus' snow machine malfunctioned!

Feasts for the Week: DOUBLE DUTY! February 8-21. BTW, even the Jungle Screechers were waiting for this "big storm".

Sorry I'm late. Computer acted up on me all night last night trying to get my podcast up. For some reason, it would not let me mix the show I had prepared as an .mp3 file. But I had no problem mixing it as a .wav. This morning, it loaded as an .mp3 with no problem, which ticked me off because everything I had recorded was aimed around yesterday - the Annunciation, even with the praying of the Angelus Prayer.

Anyhoo, today it's all up - the Angelus Prayer, and the first of a three-part series on Pope Benedict XVI's Apostolic Exhortation, Sacramentum Caritatis. Today we cover some of the introductory sections of this very important document.

We've got two miscellaneous outbursts today as well.

Feasts for the week: Annunciation. For more information, see the New Advent Website.
Christus Vincit Semi-Live on the High Trail with the Bitmap: Bitmap and Snarky run through the music list for the Fifth Sunday of Lent. They even run into Shamus. The muddy trails will never be the same again!

Music:
1. Praise to the Lord, the Almighty (tune: Lobe den Herren)

Well, I had all the intentions of having our choir's rendition of Mozart's Ave Verum played on this episode. However, using a new recorder, as well as the choir did, the recording itself was trash. It was nothing but noise, doing the choir's excellent work absolutely no justice. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Today we continue with our White List, using the disposable hymnal Breaking Bread from OCP.
